Chakan, Maharashtra, India
Chakan is a small town in state of Maharasthra some 30 kms from Pune. With a population of around 90 thousands with majority of them still depending on agriculture for a living, this town is a classic example of a small town awakening to be a giant city in the new developing India.
Once upon a time Chakan was a major onion trading market but is slowly turning into a major automobile hub as it is being developed as Special Economic Zone by MIDC.
Let's hope Chakan is able to retain its roots while it attempts to cover long distance of development and growth.
